The BPP-1 variety is a hybrid created through the cross between Tree No.1 as the female parent and Tree No.273 as the male parent, released in 1980. It boasts an average yield of approximately 10 kg per tree. The nuts are medium-sized, weighing about 5g each, with a shelling percentage of around 27.5.

BPP-8

The BPP-8 variety is a hybrid developed from the cross of Tree No.1 x Tree No.39 and was released in 1993 for general cultivation in Andhra Pradesh. Known for its superior performance, especially in regions like Orissa and West Bengal, this variety stands out among the six varieties developed from Bapatla.

VRI-1

The VRI-1 variety is a selection from germplasm collected from Vazhi Sothanai Palayam in the South Arcot District of Tamil Nadu. Characterized by a medium-sized tree and a setting of 5 to 7 fruits per panicle, this variety was released in 1981. Under Vridhachalam conditions, the mean yield of VRI-1 is approximately 7.2 kg/tree. With small-sized nuts weighing about 5g each, it boasts a shelling percentage of around 28%.

VRI-3

Developed in 1991, the VRI-3 variety stems from the seedling progeny of a high-yielding tree discovered in the village of Edayanchavadi in the South Arcot District of Tamil Nadu. With an average yield of about 10 kg/tree, VRI-3 boasts medium-sized nuts, weighing approximately 7.2g each, and a shelling percentage of around 29.1%.

BHUVANESHWAR

The Bhuvaneshwar variety, released in 1989, originates from the seedling progeny of WBDC V (Vengurla 36/3), sourced from the Regional Fruit Research Station, Vengurla. It typically flowers from January to March and has a medium duration of 70 days. Known for its cluster bearing habit, Bhuvaneshwar yields approximately 12 fruits per bunch.

BALABHADRA

The Balabhadra variety, characterized by early flowering from December to February, features bold nuts with an average weight of around 7.4 grams. With an average nut yield of about 2.0 tons per hectare (equivalent to 10.0 kg per tree), this variety exhibits a high shelling percentage of approximately 30.0%.

JHARGRAM-1

The Jhargram-1 variety, derived from T.No.16 initially collected from Bapatla, was released in 1989. It features a medium compact canopy and intensive branching habit. With an average of 6 fruits per bunch, it yields approximately 8.5 kg per tree, showcasing small nut size. This variety boasts a shelling percentage of around 30%.

JHARGRAM-2

The Jhargram-2 variety, derived from the seedling plantation of H-2/15 at the Regional Research Station in West Bengal, features a midseason flowering habit and typically produces 3-4 fruits per panicle. With an average nut weight of about 9.2g and a kernel weight of 2.85g, it boasts a shelling percentage of around 32%.

VENGURLA-1

The Vengurla-1 variety, originating from germplasm collected from Ansur village in Maharashtra’s Vengurla Tehsil, was released in 1974. With an average percentage of perfect flowers around 8%, it yields approximately 19 kg per tree. Each nut weighs about 6.2g, boasting a shelling percentage of 31.

VENGURLA-8

The Vengurla-8 variety of Cashew Nuts, released in 2001, is a hybrid known for its robust characteristics. It yields approximately 15-20 kg per tree and features bold nuts, averaging about 86 nuts per kilogram. This red apple variety boasts an impressive juice recovery rate of 85%.

BALLI-2

The Balli-2 variety, introduced in 1999 by the ICAR Research Complex in Goa, marks the first cashew variety released from the region. With an average yield of 7.0 kg per tree, Balli-2 features nuts weighing around 7.6 grams and a shelling percentage of 30.0%.

TISWADI-3

The Tiswadi-3 variety, introduced in 2007 by the ICAR Research Complex in Goa, originated from Ela village in Tiswadi taluk of North Goa District. With an average yield of 5.5 kg per tree, Tiswadi-3 features nuts weighing around 9.4 grams and a shelling percentage of approximately 29.25%.
